Bayside Photography is based in Sandringham, Melbourne. We cover the whole of Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsular but we specialize in covering Sandringham, Black Rock, Beaumaris, Hampton, Brighton, Highett, Bentleigh, Cheltenham, Mentone, Parkdale, Mordialloc (basically anywhere in Bayside and surrounding areas) and the wider Melbourne area.

We will deliver beautiful, high quality, professional photographs of your wedding. Photographs that will capture the magical moments of your special day. Photographs that will become a treasured heirloom that you will be proud to show the generations to come. Every photograph taken is individually and expertly adjusted in the digital darkroom for colour correction, exposure accuracy and is carefully cropped where necessary. You don’t just get the photographs as they were taken by the camera.

All photographs are displayed online in your own Private Web Gallery. You will be given a private access code so that only you (and those you share the access code with) can view your photographs over the internet. A Guide to Wedding Photographers

This is a basic guide to wedding photographers and explains the style of photography that we use here at Bayside Photography. It explains the the various business models for charging for wedding photography and the basic styles of wedding photography used in this industry.

There are basically 2 types of traditional business model (how you as the client get charged) and 3 styles of wedding photographer.

Business Models:

Aftermarket Sales (low prices up front): With this business model, the photographer charges a low initial fee but relies heavily on after wedding sales to make a profit. The photographer will keep hold of the digital photographs and charge you for prints or albums. These photographers know what type of photograph sells and will concentrate on these (meaning candid shots rarely appear in the collection). It is not unusual for clients to end up spending several times the initial fee in buying photographs or albums.

Creative Fee (high prices up front): With this business model, the photographer charges the full amount of the entire sale up front (usually as much as would be charged through a good "aftermarket" type sale). The advantage of this is that the photographer will shoot any photograph that the bride and groom ask for and anything that else that tells the story of the whole day. At no time does the photographer hesitate because they're wondering if the bride will buy the photograph. After the wedding all images are delivered on DVD.

Photographer Styles:

Traditional Style: This is the oldest and still the most common style today. It can be summed up as "carefully arranged". These photographers generally work on the Aftermarket Sales business model so do their job by creating beautifully posed portrait photographs that will sell. This photographer hard ly ever take candid shots because these rarely sell. If you are looking for beautifully arranged photographs and aren't interested in candid shots that tell the full story of the wedding day then this is the style for you.

Photojournalistic Style: This photographer has often worked or trained in sports or news journalism. They won't arrange anything or ask anyone to do anything. They are great at capturing candid moments but won't organize any portrait or posed type photographs. They are often paid by the hour and excel at taking photographs that tell the story of the day. If you are looking for a completely non-intrusive photographic style (all candid photographs) and aren't too interested in arranged or posed photographs then this is the style for you.

Portrait-Journalistic Style: This is a blend of the Traditional and Photojournalistic styles. With this style, the photographer will shoot in Photojournalistic style (candid shots) when things are happening but when there is a break in the action, will create beautiful portraits of the bride and/or groom and other family. If you are looking for a combination of beautifully arranged photographs and candid 'story telling' photographs, then this is the style for you.

Our Style

At Bayside Photography, we use the Portrait-Journalistic Style which gives the perfect combination of beautifully posed portraits but also includes plenty of candid shots covering all the events of the day. We also make sure that there are lots of 'scene' shots (which are great for using as background images in wedding albums) and 'detail' shots (such as the rings, brides shoes, invitation cards, place settings, flowers, cake, etc).

Our Business Model

At Bayside Photography, we use the Creative Fee model but there is one major difference: it's not a high fee, its a low fee. Being a small photography business without the overhead of a studio, gallery or shop front we can keep our prices low and still compete on quality and service.
